Parts to have on hand If you haven't already, replace the clock target and the slot machine target with the reinforced targets. Pinball Resource has these.

Bulbs - thirty or so #44 or #47 twenty #555 a seven #906 flashers

Rubber ring kit - see chart at end

Replacements for anything that is obviously broken, pop bumpers, for example.

Starting pictures:

Remove 5 balls plus the power ball - use Test 18 in the diagnostics to empty the gumball machine!

Raise playfield and disconnect wires to ramps (basically any wire running though a hole to the top of the playfield). Make sure all wires can come up through the holes without any encumbrances. Label connectors so they will be easier to reconnect. I use a sharpie permanent ink pen and use the letters of the alphabet - a,b,c... Make sure you label the connectors to the mini playfield and don't mix them up!

Remove right sling shot plastic. - washer under plastic at the top - clear plastic protector under plastic at bottom

Remove right lower lane guide.

Remove left lower lane guide.

Remove left inlane guide - yellow plastic and posts have double rubber rings (4 total)

Unplug connector (under ramp) for "Shoot here to load gumball w/ lit" sign and remove sign. - two 1/2" phillips head screw w/ star washer - two washers under ramp tabs on top of hex posts

Remove top nylock nut and washer on left sling over wireform tab. - washer under tab on top of plastic as well

Remove hex post on left side of ramp exit hole top of wireform. - 1-1/2" MF hex post.

Remove bottom nylock nut from left sling plastic and remove sling - washer under plastic at the top - clear plastic protector under plastic at bottom

Remove wireform over shooter lane - 1/2" phillips head screw /w star washer and washer at bottom - two 1/2" phillips head screw /w star washer and washer at top

Remove plastic above right inlane above "special" insert xxx-28-sp. NOTE: metal bracket under plastic - 1-5/8" across top two 3/8" 6-32 screws with shoulder washers

Remove plastic behind upper right flipper that has a flasher riveted underneath.

Remove clock (next steps from the manual, page 1-50)

power off (hopefully you did this a long time ago)

raise playfield...

Lower playfield. Remove the phillips screw located on the front base of the clock. Carefully slide the clock backwards about 1/2 inch. The clock should now be free. - 1/4" phillips head screw with star washer

Lay the clock on the playfield and remove the 2 nuts that hold the playfield plastic down in the area of the clock. Remove the plastic xxx-19-sp.

Pull the clock harness thought the playfield to complete removal.

Replacement is the reverse of removal. Be careful during replacement that the locking tab on the base of the clock slides under the notch in the roof of the player piano scoop.

Remove Main Right Steel Ramp (next steps from manual, page 1-52)

Turn power off.

Raise playfield...

Lower playfield...

Remove clock (you just did this)

more clock...

Remove the phillips screw which holds the red playfield plastic (sp-31-xxx-23) that is directly under the metal ramp. Remove the plastic - 3/8 inch phillips head screw /w star washer and thick washer

There should now be access to pull the optical switch harness for the ramp through the playfield, so pull it.

Remove the two #2 phillips screws that hold the ramp entry into the wood. Note that the screws DO NOT hold down the flap.

There is a leg on the right side of the ramp. Remove the screw that holds this leg to the top of the 3 ball lock mechanism. On EARLY protection units there is a 1/4 inch plastic spacer between the leg and the lock roof. DO NOT LOOSE THE SPACER! - 1/2" phillips head screw w/ star washer

Remove the screw that holds the wire chute to the left main ramp left entry post.

Carefully remove the E-ring that holds the divertor scoop to its pivot on the wire chute. Remove the pivot pin. Tip the divertor scoop to remove the pull wire.

Remove the screw that holds the wire chute to the mini-playfield. It is located between the rails of the chute ant the mini-playfield entrance. - 3/4" phillips head screw with star washer.

Remove the metal ramp and chute (see note below!).

Note that the chute has a hook which locks into a hole located in the top of the metal ramp. Unhook the chute from the ramp and slide them apart. Hooks on right side only.

Replacement is the revseral of the removal, being careful about the chute hook must go into the mating hole on the ramp. Also be careful to replace the spacer (if necessary) in its proper location. Care must also be taken NOT to catch the flap at the ramp entry under the screws.

Remove Main Left Plastic Ramp (next steps from manual, page 1-56)

Turn power off.

Raise playfield...

Lower playfield...

Remove the 2 small #1 phillips screws which holds the ramp entry to the wood.

Remove the 2 screws that hold the ramp to the mounting posts - 5/8" phillips head screw with star washer plus thick washer

Remove the 2 screws that hold the ramp to ramp diverter assembly. - 1/2" with shoulder washer

Remove the 4 screws that hold the ramp to the 2 wire chutes (you already did this when you removed the wireforms).

Gently left up on the ramp to gain access to the rear playfield plastic. Loosen but DO NOT REMOVE the 3 screws that hold the plastic to the wood rail. Remove the plastic (you don't really need to remove the plastic, just get the wires out from under the plastic, you can remove it when the ramp is off).

The ramp should now be free to remove from the game.

Replacement is reverse of removal.

Remove plastic over slot machine (xxx-22-sp)

Remove plastic at upper right corner (if you didn't do it already).

Remove plastic between ramps (xxx-35-sp) - 2" phillips wood screw with 1-1/2" black plastic spacer in front. - rear has spacer attached to plastic with 1-3/4" wood screw with shoulder washer

Remove blue plastic on right side rail in front of ramp divertor coil (xxx-18-sp) - 2 hex head wood screws

Remove Mini Playfield (described wrongly on manual page 1-58. They have step-4 removing the nuts both on the same side rather than at the bottom) These are simplified because wireform at the top has already been removed.

PAY ATTENTION TO PLUGS!!! To plugs have the same configuration, reversing them toasts your optos and maybe other stuff!

See mini-playfield shop out steps below.

There are 2 nuts on each side at the bottom of the playfield on top of star posts holding the mounting bracket. Loosen (do not remove) the nuts.

Lift playfield and remove rear wood panel from machine - 5 wood screws. Note, on my machine I had to move the divertor that sends balls to the gumball VUK so I could access the middle screw. When all 5 screws are removed, the panel will fall into the machine, so, if you don't want it to fall, hold on to it.

Remove plastic (xxx-6-sp) on right side of gumball.

Remove 3 level plastic on left side of gumball. Since the back is no longer in the way, twist it up and back to remove.

Remove 2 hex head wood screws from the VUK wireform.

Note, there are 4 washers on top of the playfield where the studs go through.

Remove Apron - this can be done at anytime

Remove ball guides. Note, all guides have hex head wood screws. - washers on top of playfield under studs. - washers on bottom of playfield under nylock nuts. - Note dead end scoop needs to be removed so ball guide can lift out. - Note small ramp at the end of inside shooter lane comes off before ball guide to left of it.

Remove front holder brackets - 1-3/8 hex head with slot

Posts in front of bottom jet have washers (thicker) underneath on playfield

Lift playfield and remove troughs. Note: there is one post under the large trough - overall length 3-3/8 with 1-1/8 top. Note: no molex plugs on trough switches. If you want to add them you'll need 5.
