3 Technical Info

Spooky Pinball does not include manuals or schematics with their machines. They also do not include a prop rod to hold the playfield in a comfortable position for servicing.

3.1 Boards

Dominos uses a MacroFab cpu/driver board and it has a CR-2032 coin cell battery for memory/settings backup. This board feeds a "line level" audio signal out to the cabinet mounted audio amplifier and video data to the LCD monitor. The fuses on this board are all 5mm x 20mm size.

Dominos CPU/Driver board

Total Nuclear Annihilation and Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle use the Multimorphic P3-ROC mpu system.

3.2 Power Supplies

There are three power supplies in the bottom of the cabinet. One is an enclosed screw terminal dual output (+5v @ 6A, +12v @ 3A) which provides power to both the cpu board and the LCD display. Another enclosed screw terminal single output power supply provides power to the coils (48v @ 12 amps). The smallest power supply is a "laptop" style which provides power to the cabinet audio amplifier mounted near the cashbox.

3.3 Display

The display is an LCD monitor very much like a color DMD and operates on 12 volts DC.

3.4 Speakers

There are a total of three speakers in a Dominos pinball. One 8 inch round woofer is in the bottom of the cabinet and two 4 inch square mid-range tweeters are in the backbox attached to the speaker/display panel.

3.5 Flippers

Dominos uses off-the-shelf Williams WPC flipper assemblies.

3.6 Cabinet Parts

Legs are 28.5 inches long Williams and are powder coated a dark gray color. Leg bolt mounting plates are Williams # 01-11400-1. Ball shooter assembly is Williams # B-12445-6. Coin door is made by Happ Controls.

3.7 Servo Motors

Many Spooky games make use of servo motors. As of May of 2020, Spooky has recommended the following replacements:

4 Problems and Solutions

4.1 Power Supplies

Coil power supply is a Mean Well # SE-600-48 (Jameco Electronics # 295929) which is single output, enclosed, 48 volts @ 12 amps. Logic and Display power supply is a Mean Well # RD-65A (Jameco Electronics # 323505) which is a dual output, enclosed, 5 volts @ 6 amps and 12 volts @ 3 amps. There is also a "laptop" style power adapter which provides +12 volts to the cabinet's audio amplifier.

4.2 Solenoid Problems

Coil list for Dominos:

  • 23-800 Pop Bumpers.
  • 23-800 Scoop kickouts.
  • 23-800 Slingshots.
  • FL-11629 Flippers.
  • 26-1200 Ball Trough.
  • 23-800 Shooter Lane.
  • AE-27-1200 Up Post at top of playfield.
  • 23-800 Knocker (if installed).

All coils have diodes.

Unknown number for magnet coil (appears same as a Williams # 20-9247). There is a 5 ohm @ 50 watts Dale # RH-50 high power resistor wired in series with the magnet coil.

Solenoid driver transistors are labeled SOL0 through SOL23 and are all type IRL540PBF mosfets. Fuse F1 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "0" (coils 0 through 7). Fuse F2 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "1" (coils 8 through 15). Fuse F3 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "2" (coils 16 through 23).

4.3 Switch Problems

4.4 Lamp Problems

4.4.1 General Illumination (GI) Problems

All general illumination bulbs are LED types.

Driver transistors labeled GI0 through GI15 are type TIP102. Driver transistors labeled U20 through U27 are type TIP107. Driver transistors labeled U28 through U35 are type TIP102.

4.4.2 Controlled Lamp Problems

All controlled lamps are LED types.

4.5 Display Problems

The score display is an LCD monitor similar to a color DMD display.

4.6 Sound Problems

The cpu board provides a "line level" output signal which is fed to a car stereo amplifier mounted in the bottom cabinet near the cashbox. The amplifier is a Lepai model # LP-168HA providing 2 X 40 watt main outputs and 1 X 68 watt subwoofer output. The cabinet speaker is an 8 inch round 4 ohm @ 10 watt woofer (Stern # 031-5007-01). The two backbox speakers are 4 inch square 8 ohm @ 4 watts (Stern # 031-5004-02).

4.7 Flipper Problems

Flipper assemblies are Williams A-15205-R2 (right) and A-15205-L2 (left) complete assemblies with A-12390 coil stop and FL-11629 coils for Dominos.

4.8 Pop Bumper Problems

The pop bumper assemblies are Data East/Sega/HomePin style. Use Data East # 500-5227-00 complete pop bumper assembly with AE-23-800 coil installed. Check for screws coming loose on the assemblies. https://www.pinballlife.com/desega-pop-bumper-assembly.html

4.9 Optional Equipment

  • 600-0289-00 Accessory Power Supply for Spooky P-Roc system machines (Total Nuclear Annihilation, Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle).
  • 600-0103-00 Aux Power Splitter for Ben Heck cpu/power driver machines (Rob Zombie).
  • 100-0021-00 Knocker Kit (Rob Zombie, Dominos, Jetsons, Total Nuclear Annihilation, Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle).
  • 100-0023-00 Shaker Motor Kit (Rob Zombie, Dominos, Jetsons).
  • 100-0054-00 Shaker Motor Kit (Total Nuclear Annihilation, Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle).

All of above kits are available from Pinball Life.

5 Game Specific Problems and Fixes

  • Domino's flipper not working. Broken return spring (Williams # 10-364) on flipper assembly. Check the coil fuses on cpu board for a blown 3 amp slo blo fuse.
  • Domino's pop bumpers machine gunning. Check spoon switches. One or more may be stuck shut and need to be adjusted.
