Space Jam features two magnets that "grab" the ball.

The first magnet is behind the backboard on the upper left side of the playfield. This magnet grabs the ball when the metal ramp is made. A reed switch under the ramp lets the game know that a ball has passed over the ramp, then the game turns the magnet on, grabbing the ball. If the magnet is not grabbing the ball, and you've tested the magnet in coil test, the only other failure reason is the reed switch not sending a signal through to the switch matrix. While the reed switch itself may have failed, another significant reason for the signal not being received by the MPU is the "Z connector" that interfaces the two wires from the reed switch to the switch matrix. Both sides of that Z connector are two conductor IDC connectors. Wires easily pull from these connectors. It's a good idea to repin these connectors with quality trifurcon crimp style pins.

The second magnet is under the basketball, implementing the "jump ball" virtual lock feature. A VUK under the magnet launches the ball vertically to the magnet, which turns on for a split second. While the ball is being held on the magnet, one of two coils will then energize to kick the ball down either the left or the forward wire form.
